Story: Singer Jeff Buckley had a brief-but-startling musical career, with his five-octave voice range, jazz-schooled musicianship and poster-boy good looks, even though he produced only one full-length album in during his lifetime. The estranged son of 60s folk legend Tim Buckley, who died of a heroin overdose in 1975, Jeff got his first break singing at a tribute concert dedicated to his father, for whom he continued to have conflicted feelings. His 1994 album, Grace, made him a cult favorite and rising star, but as career pressures mounted, his muse took him into more adventurous territory. Among his last contributions to music was a spoken-word performance of a Edgar Allan Poe poem, which he recorded in New York City shortly before leaving for his ill-fated stay in Memphis, Tennessee, where he accidentally drowned a few months later.
