Story: Sting’s band, The Police, emerged during the late 1970s, they brought a mature and sober sensibility to the otherwise adolescent sound of British punk, thanks largely to the depth of Sting’s songwriting. By the time the band got started, Sting was already a husband and new father (his son Joseph was born 12 days before he met Police drummer Stewart Copeland), and while the band’s success ultimately allowed him the means to support his family, the demands of life on the road took its toll on his marriage, which came apart just as the Police were at their peak.
