Story: James Brown was known throughout his career as “the hardest working man in show business”, with live performances that left audiences dazed and bewildered at his lightning fast dance moves and unbelievably tight band. With his 1962 recording from a gig at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, he turned the excitement and vigor of his live performances into a best-selling album, unheard of for a live recording at the time. He famously performed live on Boston television on the night following Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, in an effort to calm the city’s raging black population. He once fired his entire band on one day, and had their replacements flown in and ready to perform the same evening. But Brown is remembered for a little more than just his unique contribution to music and performance. He was involved in a notorious two-state police car chase that landed him in prison for two years.
